Choice that suits you
The edge profile is the shape given to the visible edge of your worktop, and it changes both the look and the feel. The most common profiles are the square or pencil-round edge for a clean, modern look, the bevelled or chamfered edge for a subtle angled detail, and the bullnose or rounded edge for a softer feel. The profile is shaped and polished during fabrication, after being confirmed at the template. To see when this is decided, read how worktops are templated.

The main edge profiles and how to choose
Square and pencil-round edges
A square edge gives a crisp, modern, minimal look. A pencil-round edge is almost square but with the sharp corner very slightly eased, which keeps the contemporary feel while softening the edge a little. Both suit modern and handleless kitchens.
Bevelled and chamfered edges
A bevelled or chamfered edge has a small angled cut along the top edge, adding a subtle detail without being ornate. It works well in both modern and more traditional kitchens and catches the light along the worktop.
Bullnose and rounded edges
A bullnose edge is fully rounded, and a half-bullnose rounds the top edge only. These give the softest look and feel, with no sharp edges, which some homeowners prefer in family kitchens.
How the profile is created
The edge profile is shaped and polished during fabrication, so it is part of making the worktop rather than something added on site. It is confirmed at the template stage, alongside decisions on joins. Our guides on how worktops are made and joins and seams cover the surrounding steps.
Choosing the right edge for your kitchen
The best way to choose is to see the profiles in person and consider the style of your kitchen and how the worktop will be used. Seeing full-size slabs and edge samples at a showroom helps. Make sure the edge profile you want is written into your quote, as our guide on what a quote should include explains.
